About Crowned with Care
In 2024, Mane Hook-Up teamed up with DOOPs Braiding studio to launch not one, but two events to help Black and Mixed race children in the foster care system get access to the people, products and education they need to make better decisions about their hair and stay in touch with their cultural heritage.

Why is this important?
8/10 of Black and Mixed-race children in care are placed with families from a different cultural background.
Typically, that means they don't get the right hair care and this can lead to many painful experiences. From bullying, to having their hair cut, shaved or permanently straightened when foster families are unsure how to properly care for their hair.
What is Mane Hook-Up & DOOPs doing?
We're hosting 2x pilot events, offering the children:
- A free hair appointment with a specialist afro and curly hair stylist
- A box of free hair products to use when they get home
- A series of educational sessions on hair and skin, run by our brand partners
Most importantly, they will get all of this for free. Mainly as we want to relieve carers from the stress and financial pressure that comes with hair care.
When is this happening?
Leicester will be on the 20th February at the Afro Caribbean Center (Recap coming soon!).
London will be on 13th April at Sta Studios.
